The State Government funded $3.15 million Council upgrade of the Queenscliff Sport and Recreation precinct is on track for completion in April 2018 with civil works contractor, John Monahan Pty Ltd, formally taking possession of the site on Tuesday 12 December 2017.

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville on recently visiting the site with Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Susan Salter said that the “multi-million dollar funding for the project was delivery of a 2014 election commitment and that it was great to see works underway.”

“I was very pleased to have secured State Government funding for this important project and now, having worked with local sporting clubs and Council on its development, I look forward to those clubs and their members soon playing on the first class facilities they deserve,” Ms Neville said.

“When completed I know the upgraded sports precinct will provide a great community asset that will serve the community of Queenscliff well for many years to come,” Ms Neville said.

“The commencement of works at the Sport and Recreation precinct is very much welcomed,” said Cr Salter.

“Because of the commitment of the State Government, Council will be able to provide the members of our sporting clubs and their supporters with vastly improved facilities.”

“I am delighted that this work has begun and look forward to seeing netball played on the new courts at the start of the season,” said Cr Salter.

The $3.15 million funding for the upgrade of the Sport and Recreation precinct has been provided under the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

At the completion of the project the precinct will feature new netball courts and cricket nets, more than 90 new car parking spaces with accompanying roadway, kerbing and footpaths, a new playground and refreshed landscaping. The schedule of works also includes the construction of an improved retaining wall to the rear of the Monahan Centre and installation of underground utility services.

Site fencing has been erected and site clearing and demolition have started in preparation for the construction works.

The contract for the civil construction works was awarded to local operator John Monahan Pty Ltd following a Special Meeting of Council on 12 October 2017.
