Temporary closure of searchlight emplacement at Point Lonsdale Lighthouse
The concrete searchlight emplacement at the south side of the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse has been temporarily closed to public access following a recent risk assessment of historic defence structures in Point Lonsdale.
The searchlight emplacement was erected during World War 1. The risk assessment found that the condition of the historic structure is extremely poor and presents a serious safety risk. Temporary fencing and signage have been erected to warn members of the public and prevent access to the searchlight emplacement.
Council has engaged a structural engineer to advise on the management and rehabilitation of the searchlight emplacement. Planning for rehabilitation will be undertaken by Council when required works have been identified.
