Integrated Water Management Statement - Barwon Region
The Integrated Water Management Statement for the Barwon Region, released in early November 2018 by the Hon. Lisa Neville MP, Minister for Water, identifies key water management projects for the Borough of Queenscliffe.
Council will commence work on one of the recommendations in the water management statement, an integrated water management plan for the Borough of Queenscliffe, in 2019.
This project will examine stormwater outfalls and stormwater re-use in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale with a view to reducing localised flooding and consequent overflow of waste onto local beaches during periods of high and acute rainfall.
A further project at Simpson Street in Point Lonsdale is under investigation. The Point Lonsdale Stormwater Infiltration Trial proposes to increase the amount of soak pits in the area of Simpson Street, using geotechnical investigations to ensure the design and location of the soak pits is as efficient as possible. Use of a raingarden design has been proposed to maintain effective stormwater management while retaining an attractive streetscape.
Participating councils in the Barwon Region include the City of Greater Geelong, Colac Otway Shire, Golden Plains Shire, and Surf Coast Shire Councils.
